The ConsumerScope Individual Panel is a sample of 10,000 persons that represents the German population over the age of 10 living in private households, a universe of 63.9 million persons in 2004. The purchasing reports and surveys focus directly on the selected individual who then reports on his or her own behavior, attitudes, intentions, etc. Individual panels are particularly necessary in cases in which purchases are made to a large extent by persons other than the head of the household, e.g. young persons or men specifically. This is the only way to attain good coverage of such individual purchases. At present the large majority of the panel participants still reports in writing using purchasing diaries / questionnaires that are sent by mail and returned regularly on a monthly basis. An increasing number of panel participants (at present about one-quarter) reports online through GfK’s own survey / diary software (CPO – ConsumerPanel Online).
